Welcome to Day 1 of our trip out west! We've been planning and mapping out this trip for several months. The trip began as a visit to the Grand Canyon and has evolved into numerous points of interest along the way.
Because my husband loves me as he does he entertained my wanting to visit Magnolia Market At The Silos in Waco, Texas. This location has been developed by Chip and Joanna Gaines of Fixer Upper fame on HGTV. They remodel homes
in the Waco area. Chip does the demo and construction, Joanna is the designer and man, can she design. Her attention to detail is evident throughout the Silos.
As we approached Waco, we drove through the campus of Baylor University. What a gorgeous campus. Of course we've heard much about Baylor University lately, especially Kim Mulkey their basketball coach who just so happens to be the mother of Kramer Robertson- LSU's shortstop. This morsel of information was spoken of by every announcer of every LSU baseball game this season....lol. Regardless, beautiful campus.
The Silos are smack dab in the middle of downtown Waco. The impact that Chip and Joanna has had on the city is so evident in the throngs of people visiting the Silos. We parked around the back side of the property and entered through a back gate. Upon entering we were offered complimentary umbrellas to help shield you from the blaring sun.
Very nice touch. This entrance was near the food trucks and that suit us just fine, it was 2-ish and we had not yet had lunch.
We walked through all of the trucks and decided upon the Cheddar Box- Gourmet Grilled Cheese! Dean ordered The Boss- gouda, bacon, and basil. I ordered the daily special, The Caprese- tomatoes marinated in a balsamic reduction, mozzarella cheese, and basil.

In the center of the property is a large courtyard that has been covered in really nice artificial turf. There are large bean bags chairs strewn about. There are balls of every shape and size, a giant Jenga game, frisbees, etc. Very much a relaxed, family atmosphere.
The landscaping and placement of vegetation and flowers is amazing! How beautifully those elements blend with rusty, worn structures!

The Market itself is huge and filled with all things Joanna- including shiplap! We also made a visit to The Bakery! The cupcakes and cookies were delish!
We spent a couple hours at the property and enjoyed every minute of it. We then jumped back on the highway to get closer to our next destination, White Sands National Monument in New Mexico. We stopped in Abeline, Texas around 9 to call it a night. Abeline, you know, like 'Sweet Eileen in Abeline, she's forgot I hung the moon' according the George Straight....lol
Along the route to Waco and afterwards, we shot a few interseting sites. First are the wildflowers! Again, my husband loves me that much that he will stop and shoot pictures of them. Simply gorgeous!
AND, everything is bigger in Texas right?? Can't even begin to imagine the boot size....lol
Until day two...

I am so jealous that you visited Waco and visited the silos and the bakery--it is on my "bucket list"! Fixer Upper is my FAVORITE show on HGTV, and I watch it all the time--even if it is a rerun! I adore Chip and Joanna and their precious family. Enjoy the rest of your trip! xoxo
